Veerle had been having contractions for three nights and two days before the birth of Marcel. It was a very frustrating time that has probably traumatized us for the rest of our lives. Whenever I hear Veerle moan or sigh my heart misses a beat.

In the end the contractions were extremely painful without a lot of result, so she asked for an 'epidural' sedation and something that would stimulate the opening of the uterus. That was a great idea. It allowed her to get some sleep and to be more concentrated when actually giving birth to Marcel. They birth itself took about 10 minutes. Marcel was born on 27 April, 6.57 AM. Mother and child are fine.

Marcel is in perfect health. He's a very quiet boy. He makes a lot of sweet noises a sleeps very much. He has long fingers and big feet and a lot of black hair.

Now we're parents. I'm having trouble realizing what's happening but one thing I know is that I'm very scared: this tiny creature is in our hands now and we don't know how to take care of it. Suddenly I find myself driving the car more carefully cause I can't die and leave that little guy alone.

Veerle and Marcel are home now. I think he likes his brand new yellow room. It feels so good to touch him and hold him and kiss him.

one proud papa,
Michaël.

The three photographs on the right and the one on the index page were made by Marcel's godmother Claudine Bovyn, who stayed with us during the birth.
